What Is The Difference Between Sisal and Synthetic Sisal?

We specialize in custom Sisal and Synthetic Sisal flooring. There are some differences of which carpeting is best for your home or for commercial use at businesses and hotels. Depending on the type of foot traffic on your flooring, that can sway your decision.

our natural sisal weave, oslo

First of all, Sisal, is a 100% natural fiber. It comes from the agave plant and is extremely durable. One thing to note and be aware of Sisal flooring is that it’s not easily cleanable, but stains can certainly be prevented. If you prefer this flooring, we suggest using it indoors only in a low traffic room in your home. It is best to wipe your shoes off on a good walk-off mat or simply remove your shoes before walking on your Sisal rug. If you do happen to spill or stain your custom Sisal rug, we suggest an immediate spot clean by blotting gently with a clean dry cloth and using a  Miele vacuum with a strong suction for dirt particles. We do love the look of Sisal as it brings a calmness and neutral aesthetic to any room.

our synthetic sisal weave, cambridge

If you do have more foot traffic on your flooring or are worried about spills, we suggest our Synthetic Sisal flooring. It’s a great option if you have children or pets or want to use it in a commercial setting with more foot traffic. Underfoot, you’ll notice it feels much softer than the roughness of natural Sisal. It has the same Sisal look replicating down to the actual weaves. Our newest weaves, Paddington and Sydney, are actually woven on Sisal looms, so you can barely notice the difference in the look. Synthetic Sisal flooring is easy to clean because liquid does not penetrate in the fibers. You can use a damp cloth to blot out spills or stains, a vacuum with the rotating brushes on a high setting or getting it professionally shampooed. The reason we love Synthetic Sisal so much is because it gives dimension to any room and you just don’t have to worry about stains.

To make any Sisal and Synthetic Sisal custom rug last longer, consider a rug pad and take immediate action on preventative care and maintenance. Of course, if you have any questions, e-mail or call us. We love being able to help you find the most suitable custom flooring for your needs.

          Hi Anna Jane,

Thank you for the inquiry! We offer several different synthetic weaves on our website that might be of interest to you. Our Augusta collection is a polypropylene product that feels exceptionally soft underfoot and looks just like real sisal while boasting superior defense against spills and stains.

I also recommend checking out our SynSisal collection, which offers a contract-grade synthetic sisal woven with sustainable regenerated nylon. To find out the exact price of a synthetic sisal rug with your specified dimensions, click on a collection and then the “Order Your Rug” button located underneath a color option in that collection. There, you can click “Custom Rug” and enter your dimensions to receive the price for that option. In general, a 8’2” by 12’5” synthetic sisal rug will run anywhere between $1,000 and $2,000. You can view all of our synthetic sisal rug and carpet selections here.

I hope that helped! Please don’t hesitate to to contact our customer service team or follow up with me if you have any more questions.

          Best,
          Patrick
