What Is SynSisal®?
SynSisal® is not just any synthetic sisal. Our SynSisal® weaves are made from ECONYL® 100% regenerated nylon. We reclaim waste from fishing nets (25%) to recycled nylon carpeting (25%) to repurposed materials (50%) while conserving new resources. Besides being sustainable, SynSisal® is an eco-conscious choice in flooring. These contract-grade weaves are woven of 100% regenerable yarn with low VOC contribution, so no venting your rooms for days or even weeks. But what makes our customers really happy? All our SynSisal® rugs and carpet come with built-in stain protection through the ECONYL® StayClean technology. Keep your flooring clean throughout its life span by vacuuming regularly and promptly attending to spills and stains.

Why Did We Develop SynSisal®?
The majority of clients including interior designers come to us not knowing which type of woven material is best for their project. Many simply state that they prefer a “natural look”. What they do know however, are the needs of the space where the rug will go. We are obviously big fans of natural fiber rugs, but we realize that natural fiber is not practical for every situation. All of this emboldened us to design our own weave, SynSisal®. A weave that performs well in almost any environment—heavy traffic, kids, dogs, cats, at your seaside vacation home or your corporate office. SynSisal® redefines texture, dimensionality and beauty of sisal and marries it with easy-to-clean durability and softness. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Below, we compiled the most common user questions for you to browse through. We hope these topics will assist you in making an informed decision about your next purchase.

Is SynSisal® Sustainable?
It is a common but false notion in today’s society that all synthetics must be bad for the environment. This is not the case for our SynSisal® rugs and carpet where sustainability was at the forefront throughout the design process. We use 100% reclaimed materials to create fantastic fresh flooring with a timeless look. We don’t burn up new resources. Instead, we repurpose fishing nets and recycle your carpet when you’re done with them. With SynSisal®, you contribute to a circular economy by saving materials from landfills and oceans to regenerate a beautiful product. Every ton of ECONYL® raw material saves seven barrels of crude oil and avoids about six tons of CO2 emissions.
ECONYL® demonstrates the same properties as virgin nylon—durability, cleanability and versatility. Plus, it can be recycled, recreated and remolded again and again. Infinite possibilities for creators and consumers alike. Ask us how to earn LEED points and improve your building’s sustainability story.

Is SynSisal® Good for High-Traffic Areas?
Finally we have a natural looking flooring solution that is beautiful and tough enough to work for any space. Whether your project encompasses highly used residential areas or demanding commercial applications like hotel lobbies, offices and airports, SynSisal® is the answer you’ve been waiting for. Our SynSisal® flooring combines the fibrous texture and muted aesthetic of sisal with easy-to-clean durability. So you get the best of both worlds—we pair the natural look of sisal with the low maintenance and toughness of solution-dyed Nylon 6. Woven with this superior yarn, the weaves are UV resistant with high colorfastness. This ensures excellent long-term appearance retention.
All of our SynSisal® weaves are tightly woven, low profile and permanently anti-static. Available as fabulous wall-to-wall installations or custom-cut area rugs with a fire rating of Type 1 / Class A, SynSisal® is perfect for large-scale commercial, hospitality and contract-grade uses.

Are SynSisal® Rugs & Carpet Soft to Walk On?
We all know the old sisal problem. Rugs and carpet made from sisal feel rough underfoot. But that is not the case for SynSisal®. The painstaking regeneration and purification process, from repurposed waste to recycled nylon, creates a virgin product that is soft to the touch and comfortable to walk on. The pristine fibers resist compression and abrasion, lending smoothness to the end product while not compromising on longevity. No need to add wool to these weaves for softness and risk cleanability. No wonder SynSisal® is the go-to material for high-end residential settings or boutique hotels which try to recreate the homey feel.

Are SynSisal® Rugs & Carpet Kid/ Pet Friendly?
When customers talk about kid and pet friendly carpet, they are looking for softness, sturdiness and stain resistance. Our SynSisal® offers it all. We make it from high-performing, 100% regenerated Nylon 6 fibers for a reason. Nylon 6 is tough due to its high-tensile strength while staying elastic to retain texture and a smooth feel underfoot. These things in combination with ECONYL® StayClean technology ensure a state-of-the-art, finished product that guarantees ultimate stain forgiveness. Your carpet will resist staining with proper maintenance, like regular vacuuming and quick attention to spills and stains. We recommend James Cleaner products for general cleaning and treatment of stains. Approved for use on our SynSisal® weaves, the James Starter Kit comes complete with James Water, James Stainwonder and James Stainspray.
Firm hardwood, laminate or cold tile are no longer the only options for your kids’ rooms. Order some swatches of our SynSisal® weaves today to feel the softness. Their neutral yet refined colorways harmonize well with different interior designs. Imagine a neutral, beautiful SynSisal® wall-to-wall carpet or a layered SynSisal® area rug to introduce an additional design element.

Does SynSisal® Shed?
Shedding is the process of fibers coming up off the carpet once installed. This is a well-known problem with most natural weaves such as jute and seagrass. SynSisal®, a synthetic weave made from 100% regenerated Nylon 6 fibers will have next to no shedding. Our SynSisal® rugs and carpet are made from long nylon strands to prohibit shedding. Whatever shedding occurs will be on a microscopic level. Regular vacuuming will take care of that issue for sure.
Is SynSisal® Good for Allergies?
Our SynSisal® rugs and carpet are eligible for LEED points. So we must have done something right when it comes to allergies and the environment. Step 1: We save fishing nets from the oceans, fabric scraps from mills and carpet destined for landfills. Resulting in no new waste. Step 2: We devise an innovative process to recycle these materials into a pristine fiber—ECONYL® 100% regenerated nylon. Using up no new resources to create a novel product. Step 3: The recycling process is refined in a way to generate an end product that is not only recyclable again and again, but also emits very low VOC throughout its lifespan. Our SynSisal® weaves emit no toxic antigens that would cause allergies. Outcome: You are left with zero guilt when buying SynSisal®. Plus, you are contributing to a circular economy that is focused on zero waste, sustainability and aesthetics.

Is SynSisal® Carpet Good for Stairs?
We talked about what makes the perfect stair runner in previous blogs like our “Sisal Rugs—Everything You Need to Know” blog. Stair runners must be hard-wearing, tightly woven and non slippery. And of course, if your stair runner is easy to clean that’s just an additional perk. With a SynSisal® stair runner you can check all these boxes. Our SynSisal® weaves are extremely durable. Produced from solution-dyed Nylon 6, they classify for contract-grade applications as well as residential heavy use areas. The innovative ECONYL® StayClean technology guarantees low maintenance and resistance to stains.
SynSisal® comes in tightly woven patterns such as the timeless bouclé, sophisticated tiger eye, classic panama and elegant herringbone. The color palette complements any design style. You get the natural sisal look for your stairs without the hassle of the arduous upkeep. SynSisal® on your stairs will provide warmth and cushioning under your feet while buffering sound. Who would not want beautiful and worry-free stairs?

How to Care for SynSisal® Rugs & Carpet?
Don’t we all have better things to do with our time than spot-cleaning our carpet day in and day out? Stain-free carpet are easy with SynSisal®’s clever ECONYL® StayClean technology. The solution-dyed Nylon 6 yarn is tailor-made with modified polymer. Polymer is known for its resistance. ECONYL® StayClean fibers provide intrinsic stain and wear and tear resistance that doesn’t come at the expense of the environment. In addition, they demonstrate an elasticity that minimizes flattening, carpet pile compression and deformation. Never has cleaning been so easy. Regular vacuuming, prompt removal of spills and treating stains with approved cleaners like James Cleaner will keep your carpet’s soft feel and luxurious look throughout its lifespan. We call this resilience without compromise.
SynSisal®’s high performance is the right match not only for wall-to-wall flooring in commercial and hospitality spaces but also for custom area rugs (cut and bound) for high-end residential homes. The possibilities are as big as your project.

Why SynSisal® Is a Great Alternative to Sisal?
If all of the above did not convince you of the positive properties of our SynSisal®, let us summarize why it is such a great alternative to natural sisal. First of all, you get the natural look of sisal, the same classic weave structures and timeless colors but with a softer feel underfoot. Second, whereas natural sisal might even stain when spilling water, SynSisal®’s ECONYL® StayClean fibers are stain-resistant. Regular vacuuming and easy cleanability will save you time, nerves and money in the long run. And third, our SynSisal® is not like any other synthetic sisal. It is woven on traditional looms in Europe from 100% recycled materials. Our process utilizes regenerated yarn to weave artisan structures and make elegant and sustainable rugs and carpet.
Our SynSisal® flooring is stunningly similar to natural sisal, but tough enough to go where you wouldn’t dare to use the real thing. Have a project in mind? Contact our dedicated customer service team for help at any stage of your design.
