Built for Evolving Spaces

Grounded in the look of natural sisal, SynSisal® Tile combines organic texture with modular flexibility.

Create calm, high-performing interiors that can evolve with changing needs.

Carpet tiles are pre-cut squares or rectangles of carpet that are attached to a backing. The tile backing adds stability to the weave and prevents buckling or curling. Carpet tiles are also referred to as tiled carpet, modular carpet, or modular flooring. Instead of being sold off the roll, as in broadloom carpeting, carpet tiles are sold by the case or box.

Carpet tiles provide an easy way to customize the flooring in your home.

  • Cost Effective: Carpet tiles are generally less expensive than broadloom carpet. They are versatile, easy to install, and provide an instant update to any space.

  • Modular: Individual carpet tiles and planks can be arranged, replaced, or adapted to fit spaces of nearly any shape and size.

  • Creative Control: Mix colors, textures, and layouts to create your own unique pattern or layout.

  • Lightweight: Compared to broadloom carpet, carpet tiles are lightweight, easier to transport, and simpler to install.

  • Less Waste: Buy only what you need, no excess scraps of carpet to deal with.

  • Refresh: If a tile becomes stained or damaged, it can be replaced individually without replacing the entire floor.

  • Sound Absorption: Carpet tiles help soften acoustics, reducing echo and minimizing the sound of foot traffic.

Instant Designer Look: We source luxury carpet tiles that designers welcome into their spaces. Quality construction, arresting textures, versatile color palettes, and an environmentally friendly resumé are a few of the highlights in our collection.

In addition to the overall benefits of carpet tiles, like design flexibility, easy installation, and layout versatility, wool carpet tiles offer even more advantages:

  • Sound Absorption The layered structure of carpet tiles already absorbs sound, but wool fibers do an excellent job dampening ambient noise.

  • Thermal Regulation Wool is renowned for its cozy qualities and it adds a layer of insulation to floors that helps regulate in-house temperatures.

  • Hypoallergenic Wool absorbs dust, chemicals, and other pollutants, keeping the air you breath cleaner. And since wool is a natural product, it does not off-gas.

  • Vibrant Colors Wool yarns dye incredibly well, and wool carpet squares offer a bounty of colorways.

We proudly sell tretford® Interlife tiles. Interlife Tiles are fusion bonded, contract-grade carpet tiles crafted from durable goat hair wool, and available in an array of colors or in classic, quick-ship neutrals.

Carpet tiles are incredibly versatile, working beautifully in both residential and commercial spaces. Here’s a quick look at where different types of carpet tiles work best.

Yes. Whether you are using peel-and-stick adhesives, pressure-sensitive integrated backing (like the SynSisal® Tile place-and-press system) or gluing down, installation is a snap. Many of our customers are able to install carpet tiles themselves. If you are not up for that, a professional installation is usually less expensive and time-consuming than a wall-to-wall carpet project.

Already planning your install? We highly recommend our Carpet Tile Installation Guide. It's full of tips to help you plan your project and answers questions like "what installation method should I use?" or "do I need padding with carpet tiles?"

Carpet tiles require the same attention that a wall-to-wall carpet or an area rug requires. Here are our top-level suggestions for keeping carpet tile looking its best:

  1. Vacuum regularly.

  2. Clean up spills quickly.

  3. For residential spaces, adopt a “no shoes in the house” policy.

  4. Select the right material. Natural sisal stains easily, whereas a wool or a synthetic carpet tile has inherent stain-resistance.

  5. Order extra tiles so you can easily swap out a damaged or heavily soiled tile with a fresh one, ideal for commercial applications and busy households.

For peace of mind, a Care Guide comes with all our carpet tile selections, findable under the Care tab on the product page.

Yes, design flexibility is a hallmark of modular flooring! Here are some ideas to start with:

  • For a soothing and minimalist look, install carpet tiles with the rib facing the same direction for a monolithic look.

  • For more visual interest, try a quarter-turn layout or mix two or more colors. See Ridge Tile for examples of both monolithic and quarter-turn layouts.

  • Use tiles to design stripes, checkerboards, borders, or even random pops of color.

  • Interlife Tiles from tretford® come in an extensive color palette, great for creating a colorful flooring design.

  • Prefer a natural base? Our Sisal Tiles or Contract Coir Tiles offer neutral tones and rich texture, the perfect base for layering area rugs or heirloom pieces.

If you are looking for a seamless look, broadloom carpet installed wall-to-wall may be your best choice. Carpet tiles may have slight pattern or color variations from one square to the next and seams will be visible.

You can easily create an area rug with carpet tiles. A free-floating carpet tile rug can be monochromatic or multicolored, display a quarter-turn or checkerboard tile pattern, be large or small.
