Outdoor rugs are made from synthetic materials that can withstand the sun and the elements. The majority of outdoor weaves in our collection are made from polypropylene, rPET and woven vinyl, but we also showcase weaves with poly silk, nylon, polyester, and blends of synthetic materials.

Many of us are increasingly embracing our outdoor spaces as a place to gather with friends or family and creating comfortable, inviting havens on our balconies, patios, decks, sunrooms, and porches. Even a small space can have big style. Outdoor rugs help define and elevate patios, decks, and outdoor living areas.

A synthetic outdoor rug is a wonderful way to enhance your design style, tie together a collection of outdoor furniture or create cohesiveness between indoor and outdoor living areas.

The weather-resistant outdoor rugs on this page stand up to the elements. They are UV-resistant, mold- and mildew-resistant, safe for kids and pets, and easy to maintain.

An indoor-outdoor rug is a rug that can effortlessly move between interior and exterior spaces. They are designed for flexibility, performing well in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Key features of indoor outdoor rugs:

  • Durability – made from synthetic materials that withstand outdoor conditions

  • Comfort underfoot – designed to feel soft and add a layer of comfort to outdoor surfaces

  • Stain resistance – resists spills and everyday messes

  • Fade resistance – holds color in sun-exposed areas

  • Moisture resistance – does not absorb water easily

  • Mold and mildew resistance – suitable for humid environments

  • Low maintenance – easy to clean and care for

Don't forget to check the backing—an unbacked polypropylene is great outdoors but when used indoors, needs a rug pad for added stability and safety.

Also referred to as "anywhere" weaves, our outdoor collection showcases rugs with lots of shade variation, chunky textures, and geometric designs that will cheer up any space. From inside to outside, most of our rugs mimic the look of sisal but can stand up to the elements. For the natural look, our Terasa collection displays classic sisal structures. For playful patterns or colorful options, check out Cozumel and Tulum or woven rPET rugs from Spain's Rols collection.

Our indoor-outdoor vinyl rugs are hard-wearing, impervious to moisture, and UV stabilized. Vinyl floor coverings are used outdoors as area rugs, on boats, inside recreational vehicles, and as floor mats or rugs in entryways, laundry rooms and kitchens. Sleek and easy to clean, Seaboard or Synthesis add a durable and delightful foundation in active spaces anywhere.

Yes, one of the main benefits of an outdoor rug is the ease of maintenance.

If you’re wondering how to clean outdoor rugs, these weaves resist staining but still require quick action to clean up spills. Some synthetic outdoor rugs can even be hosed off. Thankfully, we carry only flat weave outdoor rugs which are easier to clean than rugs with a pile.

All of our weaves come with guidelines for care and maintenance that are accessible under the Care tab on each weave page. For more general care guidelines, please visit our Care Guides page.

Can outdoor rugs be left outside all year?

Outdoor rugs are designed to withstand the elements, but they should not be left outside indefinitely without care. Here are some guidelines:

  • To extend rug life, use in covered areas like patios, decks, and porches.

  • Allow the rug(s) to dry regularly to prevent moisture buildup. This reduces the risk of mold and mildew.

  • During the winter or harsh weather, store outdoor rugs in covered or enclosed areas or storage areas to prevent damage.

  • Use a broom or squeegee if needed to remove standing water.

Although most people use outdoor carpet as an area rug, it can be installed wall to wall in outdoor settings with a few caveats.

  • Covered patios and decks, an enclosed sunroom, or a semi-enclosed porch are all good candidates for wall-to-wall outdoor carpeting.

  • Carpet installation requires a properly treated surface and should be done in consultation with a professional to ensure proper adhesion.

  • In extremely humid environments, mold and mildew may grow underneath an installed carpet if there isn't enough air flow.

  • If water does pool on a fitted outdoor carpet, use a broom or squeegee to remove the standing water.

  • Do not install synthetic outdoor carpet near a fire pit, grill or barbecue. Sparks and flying embers could melt the rug's material.

Many of our outdoor carpets are available in widths larger than 13'2", perfect for larger installations or extra large outdoor rugs. Extra wide carpets have different size capacities and uses, so browse the selection to find the right material and size for you.

Finding the perfect style and fit will be a breeze with our curated rug collection.

If you are looking for a natural aesthetic with all-season flexibility, our natural-looking anywhere weaves add personality and warmth to sunrooms, garden patios, or beach house porches. Those in search of outdoor sisal rugs will enjoy our synthetic sisals like BowenCambridge, or Leeds, which come in neutral colors and interesting patterns
